A nossa Natureza 36International Children's Book Day
International Children's Book Day is celebrated on 2 April, as it commemorates the birth of Hans Christian Andersen, a Danish writer who was born in 1805 and the author of countless children's works known to us all: The Princess and the Pea, The Ugly Duckling, The Little Mermaid, The Lead Soldier, among others.
Through storybooks, children build up knowledge about the world, about people and even about feelings.
The skills and competences we acquire in childhood are reflected in adult life, so it's very important for children to create a pleasurable relationship with reading.
Through reading stories, children develop their language, as they are exposed to new words and different expressions, as well as their creativity, as children's stories allow them to travel to magical places without the need for technological toys.
Through books, children have experiences they haven't had before in their lives and are able to understand their own feelings based on what the characters in the books experience.
